Howdy!  I’m Phil Jimenez, and  I’m a storyteller by trade and by passion. I write and draw comic books for a living — think Astonishing X-Men, Amazing Spider-Man, Wonder Woman, Infinite Crisis, Otherworld, and Teen Titans —  but I’ve spent my whole life telling stories of some fashion with words, pictures, or both. (I’ve also done design work for film, TV, magazines, museums, and public spaces).

I believe in the profound ability of story to transform and entertain us, and make us rethink the world as we live in it.  I’m also a teacher at the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan, and a damn good teacher at that.

I’m from L.A. but I live in NYC, and have a decidedly “coastal” view of the world.

Oh, yeah — and I think Wonder Woman is the most awesome super-hero, ever. 🙂

    Dear Phil,
I found your blog through Liz Lefrois’s FB posting and I am so glad I did.
I am a daughter of parents born in Nebraska (my father died last October), a Mother of 2 delicious little boys, and a Nursing student at NYU… so wow… your words have impacted me greatly and feel so very personal.
I am sitting here deeply transformed after reading about your Mom’s life and death, and your experience of walking and lying in bed with her during her transition to the end of her life.
I wish you strength and peace of heart and mind and spirit and everything else I suppose this new year.
I am going to go splash the tears off my face, call my Mom, and then find an excuse to sneak into my first graders class room just to breathe him in.

Thank you for sharing your story I am going to share this on my nursing school blog because I know my friends with be touched by your words.
All the while sending you a giant virtual hug.
    Much Peace and Love,

    • Renee,

Thank you so much for the lovely, lovely letter. And thank you for pursuing a career in nursing; mom’s nurses were incredible to her and for her, and I think it’s a much, much overlooked, undervalued skill and service. I’m really glad my words had impact — but thank mom, for her impact on me. 🙂

    Dear Phil.

I don’t know where to begin. Judy & Craig Herrick have shared your blog site w/ me as well as given me vol 1-6 of “Other World” comics. To see what a beautiful person you are has makes me so proud to have known you the short time that our paths crossed. This I say especially after reading the very heartfelt blogs about your mother’s struggles w/ cancer & how that impacted your relationship w/ her.Getting to know each other through the good & bad times was the greatest gift to one another. May the most joyous memories of her sustain you.

Not only do you draw so beautifully but your blogs prove you to be an extremely talented writer. The best of life to you & yours, Laura Sturrock
